چکیده

(2). The aggregative adherence of EAggEC was due to the presence of aggregative adherence fimbriae (AAF), AAF/ 1 and AAF/lI, whose expression lS positively controlled by the aggR gene (2)・ This aggR gene is present in many EAggECs, but some aggR-positive E. coli isolates have no AAFs (3,4). EAggEC was found to produce EAggEC heat-stable enterotoxin (EASTl encoded by astA, molecular weight 4.1 kDa) (2) and EAggEC plasmid encoded toxin (Pet encoded by pet, molecular weight 108 kDa) (5). Among them, EASTl is widely distributed in pathogenic E. coli regardless of the aggregative adherence phenotype (2). Nataro et al. reported

Pet, an autotransporter enterotoxin from enteroaggregative Escherichia coli.

Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) is an emerging cause of diarrheal illness. Clinical data suggest that diarrhea caused by EAEC is predominantly secretory in nature, but the responsible enterotoxin has not been described. Work from our laboratories has implicated a ca. 108-kDa protein as a heat-labile enterotoxin and cytotoxin, as evidenced by rises in short-circuit current and falls in...

Atypical Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli Secretes Plasmid Encoded Toxin

Plasmid encoded toxin (Pet) is a serine protease originally described in enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) prototype strain 042 whose entire characterization was essentially obtained from studies performed with the purified toxin. Here we show that Pet is not exclusive to EAEC. Atypical enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (aEPEC) strains, isolated from diarrhea cases, express Pet and its ...

Evaluation of a multiplex PCR method to detect enteroaggregative Escherichia coli.

Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) has been implicated in sporadic diarrhea in children and adults and has been identified as the cause of several outbreaks worldwide. The HEp-2 test remains the gold standard for identification of this pathotype. A 60-65 MDa plasmid encodes the aggregative adherence fimbriae (AAF/I and AAF/II), a transcriptional activator (aggR gene), the enteroaggregati...

Enteroaggregative escherichia coli virulence factors in traveler's diarrhea strains.

Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) is associated with diarrhea in Spanish travelers to developing countries. In this study, the polymerase chain reaction was used to test EAEC isolates for genes encoding putative virulence factors, including EAEC adhesins, the plasmid-encoded toxin (Pet), a heat-stable enterotoxin (EAST), and Shigella enterotoxins 1 and 2 (ShET1 and ShET2). Findings incl...

espC pathogenicity island of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli encodes an enterotoxin.

At least five proteins are secreted extracellularly by enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC), a leading cause of infant diarrhea in developing countries. However only one, EspC, is known to be secreted independently of the type III secretion apparatus encoded by genes located within the 35.6-kb locus of enterocyte effacement pathogenicity island. EspC is a member of the autotransporter famil...
